Our embroidery project for June will teach you the “Tile Scene” method of machine embroidery. Each quilt block is composed of 4 separate pieces and machine quilted in the hoop as you stitch out the appliqué. I made 3 blocks and then joined them together to form a Table Runner.
Background fabric, backing and binding: 1 yd
3 colors of embroidery thread for each flower—one matches the background fabric and 2 colors for the appliqué flower.
Hoop size—at least 130mm x 130 mm. We have several different hoops that we could use depending on your machine and what hoops you have.
Stabilizer—Whisper Web works great. For each flower you will need to hoop 4 pieces of stabilizer that fit into your hoop.
Batting—I like warm and natural. Each block that you make requires 4 pieces that are 6” x 6”. This is a great way to use up some of your leftover batting pieces.
Applique fabrics: For each block you need 4 pieces at 4 ¼” x 4 ¼”. You will also need 2 pieces @ 2 ½ “ x 2 ½”. I used Timeless Treasures Treat-Square set.
Border pieces: Assorted 2 ½” strips to go with the blocks. I used a set from Timeless Treasures called “Tonga Treats” .
